Cirencester village turned into real life advent calendar

A small village has been transformed into a real life advent calendar using windows on houses as "joyful" displays.

In the village near Cirencester 24 houses have decorated a window to be opened daily in the run-up to Christmas.

Founder Dot Warren started the initiative three years ago to bring the village together.

She said as the children walk through they get "very excited about the prospect of Christmas getting closer".

"The village has a whole range of ages and it's such a joy for the little ones and the grannies to see the lights going up one by one," she said.

"The window for the 20th is full of hearts and robins and the kids just love seeing this pretty window.

"It was a very exciting thing for the village."

Each volunteer chose a design of their own, incorporating their designated number.

"This year I got 24 answers within the week - people are so pleased to be part of this.

"The lovely thing this year is we've got two new neighbours and they're doing windows as well," she added.
