Boreham road junction to close as engineers finish £35m project
Essex HighwaysA major traffic junction and roundabout will be closed for more than two days so work on a £35m relief road can be finished.
Construction started 18 months ago to link the new Beaulieu Estate in Chelmsford, Essex, with the A12.
It includes a 161m (528ft) £14m bridge that was built on site and lowered into place a year ago.
Road closures for the Boreham Interchange started on Friday night and will remain until 06:00 GMT on Monday.
Essex County Council said roads would be shut between the Generals Lane Roundabout, on the A138, to the Toby Carvery Roundabout, to allow signing and lane markings to be put in place.
Named the A131 Beaulieu Parkway, it will replace Colchester Road and White Hart Lane and will be a "new radial relief road between the A12 and A130", developer Countryside and L&Q said.
Paid for by the two companies, it is hoped it will "ease congestion" in the area and allow "easy access" to the new Beaulieu Park Station which is due to open in 2025.
Adam Simpson, director, development and project management at L&Q, said it would bring "major improvement to the local road network, reduce congestion, and will make a really positive difference to the lives of local people who will benefit from it".
