Queues on A12 after vehicle catches fire

A vehicle fire on the A12 in Essex has caused long delays after one carriageway was shut.

In a social media post at 07:36 GMT, National Highways said one lane of the southbound carriageway was closed between junction 19, the Boreham Interchange, and junction 18 at Great Baddow.

Drivers were warned of delays of up to an hour with nine miles of congestion back to junction 22 at Witham.

Roads heading into Chelmsford were also very slow and drivers were urged to use alternative routes. National Highways said the road had fully reopened by 10:00.
