An 18-year-old man has died and two other people have been seriously injured in a collision involving two cars.

Essex Police was called to reports of a crash on Ship Lane, Aveley, near Thurrock, at 23:05 GMT on Tuesday.

The teenager - a passenger in a blue Mini Cooper - died at the scene. The driver, also 18, was taken to hospital along with a man in his 60s, who was driving a black Kia Picanto involved in the crash.

Both suffered serious injuries, police said.

The road was closed off while officers investigated the incident, and the closure affected the A13 on Wednesday.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses, or people with dashcam or CCTV footage in relation to the crash, to contact them.
