Strongman John Evans's Easter bonnet breaks 105th world record

A Derbyshire grandad broke his 105th world record by balancing a 7ft 6in (2.3m) Easter bonnet on his head.

John Evans, 77, from Ilkeston, spent more than a week creating the £300 bonnet that weighs about 19kg (42lbs).

Mr Evans will reperform his stunt for an Easter fun day on 6 April at the care home where his wife, who has dementia, lives.

He said: "My wife will love it, the staff will love it, and the families will too. I'll be the star man!"

Mr Evans, who became famous for balancing a Mini on his head, is affiliated with Record Holders Republic, an online registry of world records. He said 50 of his records had been acknowledged by Guinness.

"I do a lot of this to give inspiration to others who are similar to my age. I'm 77 years old, and I'm still cracking on with things like I'm a young'un," he said.

"I've got diabetes, one of my eyes is made of plastic, and I've got short of breath, but I'm still performing and going strong!"
