Bristol Queen Square could hold huge concerts

Large-scale concerts could be held on Bristol's historic Queen Square.

Event organisers FKP Scorpio is applying to put on events with a capacity of 15,000 people on the Georgian city centre square.

Queen Square currently hosts acts as part of the annual harbour festival, and Massive Attack played there in 2003.

FKP Scorpio is one of Europe's largest festival promoters and has worked with the Rolling Stones and Ed Sheeran.

The plan is likely to be determined by Bristol City Council's licensing committee, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

If its bid to Bristol City Council is approved, events including plays and live music will take place on the 400-year-old park as well as the sale of alcohol.

The concerts would run until 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and 22:45 on Sundays.

The capacity for Queen Square would be larger than Bristol Rovers' ground, Memorial Stadium, which is approximately 12,000.

Meanwhile, a new arena is planned for the northern outskirts of Bristol with a capacity of 19,000 more than five miles from the city centre.
