Storm Henk: Cookham driver has lucky escape after tree falls on car

A driver had a lucky escape when a tree came down on their car in high winds.

Storm Henk caused major disruption across the south of England on Tuesday, with gusts reaching 94mph (151kph).

Thames Valley Police said the driver suffered minor injuries when the Volkswagen Polo was crushed by a tree on Sutton Lane in Cookham, Berkshire.

Public transport remains disrupted and flood warnings are still in place in areas along the Kennet, Lodden, Enborne and Thames.

Thousands of people endured travel misery when fallen trees blocked roads and rail lines on Tuesday.

Bracknell Forest Council said its staff were "very busy" clearing roads at the height of the storm, including London Road in Winkfield, which was blocked by a large tree.

While Storm Henk has now passed, the impact of the rain and strong winds continue across many parts of the UK.

Great Western Railway said issues were likely until the end of Wednesday due to heavy flooding between Swindon and Bristol Parkway.

South Western Railway suspended services for several hours on Tuesday after trees fell on to tracks.

It said trains could still be cancelled, delayed or revised and urged passengers to check whether their trains are running as planned.
