Drivers heading northbound on the M3 in Surrey are experiencing delays after a lorry caught fire.

National Highways said the northbound carriagewaywas closed between junction four, for Farnborough, and junction three, for Woking.

The burning trailer contained mixed electrical waste including lithium batteries, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said, which was "increasing the complexity of the situation".

A spokesperson for the fire service said the blaze was "generating large volumes of smoke" and was "likely to be a protracted incident".

Surrey Police asked people to avoid the area if possible and advised nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed.
