Work to transform a section of Wolverhampton city centre as part of a £19m regeneration scheme will begin in April.

Improvements to Lichfield Street and Queen Square will include more greenery and better infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians, City of Wolverhampton Council said.

It forms part of the authority's project to enhance three areas of the city in a bid to create a "pleasant environment" to attract more visitors and investment.

The first phase on lower Darlington Street was completed in November before work started on upper Darlington Street, between Waterloo Road and North Street.

It is hoped the wider scheme will deliver wider, brighter streets, better public events spaces, more trees and seating areas and easier access for all traffic.

Councillor Chris Burden said: "These works will ultimately enable people to better enjoy our city centre from the moment they arrive."

The council said the overall project was on track to be completed in 2027.
