The closures will be on a stretch of the road from Wothorpe, near Stamford, to Blyth, near Worksop

Drivers planning to use the A1 are being warned about layby closures during months of roadworks.

National Highways says routine maintenance in April, May and June could lead to the closure of "any layby situated adjacent to the northbound and southbound carriageways".

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the work is taking place between Wothorpe, south of Stamford, near Peterborough, where the A43 meets the A1175 (Kettering Road) and Blyth, near Worksop.

The laybys will be closed in phases between 13:00 BST and 06:00.

Although the order authorising the work came into effect on Friday, the first closures are not expected until this Tuesday.

It was hoped that would ensure traffic using the vital north-south artery would be unaffected over the Easter bank holiday.

National Highways says the layby restrictions will be in place about for two months.
