Developers plan to build the five outdoor padel courts on the car park of a current poker club

Plans to build a £1m padel complex on a poker club car park in Nottingham have been submitted.

Developers for the project, Padelplex, said the site would contain five covered outdoor padel courts, alongside a hospitality pavilion featuring a reception area, snack bar, indoor seating and changing facilities.

The development is planned to be adjacent to the Showcase Cinema at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club car park on Redfield Way.

A decision on the planning application will be made by Nottingham City Council and, if approved, Padelplex hope to welcome visitors by summer 2026.

Padel, which is considered one of the UK's most rapidly expanding sports, is played in doubles on an enclosed court about a third of the size of a tennis court.

The centre will be the first in the UK for Padelplex, a new padel community launched by Nottingham hotelier Richard Johal, founder of 200 Degrees coffee Rob Darby, alongside former England and Notts cricketer James Taylor.

Johal said Padelplex's first complex "had to be" in his home city of Nottingham.

"All of our founders are from here and we're so proud of our city's sporting energy and accolades," he said.

Darby added: "We were all set on the vision of a customer-first experience where people feel welcomed and come back time and again to have fun, enjoy this simple and accessible sport with friends and family and escape the busy world for an hour or so in a space that feels like a community."
