Elizabeth Clark, 91, was found seriously injured in Rotherham on 11 September

A stolen bank card belonging to a woman who died after being found with serious injuries was used for "multiple transactions" as she lay critically ill in hospital.

The card belonged to Elizabeth "Betty" Clark who died in hospital on 12 November. The 91-year-old was admitted on 11 September after she was found with serious injuries at an address in Peveril Close, Rotherham.

South Yorkshire Police said it now believed she sustained her injuries on 10 September and her card was stolen that day and used up until 16 September in the Kiveton Park area.

A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in December and remained on police bail, the force added.

Det Insp Adam Watkinson said a team of officers were working on the case and decribed Betty as "well-loved within her local community".

"Our inquiries have suggested that Betty was unfortunately a victim of a theft the day before she was found with her injuries.

"Our inquiries remain ongoing but we are particularly interested in anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Kiveton Park area between 10 and 16 September," he added.
