Maidstone Borough Council is consulting residents on plans for a new town council

A public consultation launched on plans to form a new town council has reached its second stage.

Maidstone Borough Council consulted residents in this summer, with 57% of respondents supporting a new Maidstone Town Council.

It said Maidstone was a large area but the only part of the borough not currently represented at a parish level.

Following the first stage, no changes will be made to Grove Green and Thurnham West, said the authority.

The borough council said the area under review currently has an electorate of around 64,000 people, with 60,000 in the unparished area.

It said it had also taken into consideration potential impacts of upcoming local government reorganisation, including keeping a Mayor for Maidstone and "establishing the identity of the town and the areas surrounding it".

The unparished areas of Maidstone includes parts of Fant and Oakwood, Grove Green and Vinters Park and Tovil.

The consultation concludes on 1 February 2026.
