A council in Kent is offering two community groups or charities the chance to use a 1,200-seater sports hall for free.

Mote Hall at the Maidstone Leisure Centre is being offered to two organisations for use on one occasion each, thanks to a collaboration between Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) and Maidstone Leisure Trust.

The main sports hall inside the leisure centre seats up to 1,200 people, or up to 1,000 standing. It usually costs up to £2,100 to hire.

Cabinet member for community cohesion and safety, David Naghi, says Mote Hall is a "fantastic space to bring communities together".

Priority will be given to groups which best meet criteria including, sporting or cultural events, events unlikely to go ahead without the free use, not-for-profit events and those which support young people, the council says.

Organisations that benefit borough residents will also be prioritised.

Only one application, for an event taking place between 1 April and 31 March, 2027, is allowed per organisation, with the deadline for applications being midnight on 1 February, the council says.
