A safety inspection on the railway line has resulted in the cancellations, Northern said

Train services between Leeds and Knottingley have been cancelled for the next week following a track safety inspection, according to operator Northern.

The disruption, which began on Sunday, is now expected to continue until 19 March, the firm said, with rail replacement busses in operation.

Posting on X on Monday, Northern said Network Rail engineers had "observed further deterioration" on the track between Pontefract Monkhill and Knottingley. No further details have been released.

Other stops on the route affected by the cancellations include stations in Wakefield, Pontefract, Featherstone and Streethouse.

The BBC has contacted Network Rail for more information.
