A multiplex cinema has been forced to close after a car crashed into the entrance.

A spokesperson for the Odeon Luxe in Northampton said it had been shut temporarily while safety checks were carried out.

The car crashed into the front doors on Saturday morning. The spokesperson said no one had been hurt.

An eyewitness told the BBC the building had been badly damaged.

"My family and I turned up for our film showing at the Odeon Northampton to find the cinema out of action," they said.

The cinema's website said it had not been taking any bookings for Saturday "due to unforeseen circumstances" and apologised to film-goers, who were advised to check for updates.

Northamptonshire Police has been approached by the BBC.
