Food waste is already collected separately in other council areas

Weekly food waste collections are to be launched in part of Cambridgeshire next month.

Households in Huntingdonshire will receive new outdoor caddies for kerbside collections and smaller ones for indoors.

The weekly collections will take place on people's usual bin days.

Julie Kerr, Huntingdonshire District Council's executive member for waste, said the scheme was a "simple but powerful way for all of us to protect the environment".

Some households have already received their caddies, with all residents expected to have been given them by 28 March.

Most people living in flats will be asked to empty their indoor caddies into shared outdoor wheelie bins.

Kerr said: "It will hopefully reduce both waste and household costs by buying less food, and together we can make Huntingdonshire greener for future generations."
