Developer hopes to build 330 homes in village
Local Democracy Reporting ServiceA developer wants to build a new neighbourhood of up to 330 new homes on the edge of a village.
Endurance Estates said it was proposing a development of "much needed homes including affordable housing" off Toll Bar Way, in Sawtry, Cambridgeshire.
The formal planning application has not yet been submitted, but the developer says it intends to submit an outline application to Huntingdonshire District Council.
A petition signed by 338 people at the time of writing was set up opposing the development over concerns the area would not be able to cope with demand created by the development.
The company wants to build on a 35-hectare (86 acres) site of undeveloped agricultural land and in phases over about seven years.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, two new access roads are also proposed, from Toll Bar Way and Green End Road.
The developer said that its plans would "not result in any likely significant effects" on the environment and the homes were "carefully designed, [of] high quality and respectful of the area".
GoogleIt said 40% of the properties would be available as affordable housing, and highlighted plans to create allotment areas to allow residents "the opportunity to grow their own produce and support healthy lifestyles".
On its website, the developer said: "There will be a mix of different types of homes to suit local people, and the development will be thoughtfully planned at a lower density so it fits well with its surroundings."
A screening opinion request was submitted to the council to confirm if the proposals would require an environmental impact assessment.
Once a planning application has been formally submitted the council will consider the plans.
