A mother was critically injured when gunshots were fired through her front door on Christmas Eve while her one-year-old son was at home.

The woman was taken to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds after two male suspects fired seven shots at her house on Cronin Street in Peckham, south London, between 22:30 and 23:00 GMT, the Metropolitan Police said.

The 21-year-old woman remained in critical care over the Christmas period and is still on the ward receiving treatment, police said.

Her son was not harmed.

'Shocking act'

The Met Police said the two suspects fled on foot towards Commercial Way, and were dressed in dark clothing - with one wearing a grey hoodie and believed to have been carrying a gun, and the other wearing a dark hoodie.

The force is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Det Insp Jordan Gardner called it a "shocking act of violence, carried out at a family home where a young child was present".

He said: "We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Cronin Street, Commercial Way or Moody Road between 21:45 and 23:45 on the evening of Wednesday, December 24."
