Firefighters had to use an aerial ladder

Firefighters from across Essex tackled a loft fire at a hotel.

Crews from Chelmsford, Coggeshall, Halstead, Great Dunmow, Thaxted and Colchester were called to the Premier Inn, at Galleys Corner, in Braintree, at 16:53 GMT on Saturday.

When they got there, firefighters reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the loft space, so requested that an aerial ladder platform crew be sent to the scene.

According to station manager Paul Champ, they "worked quickly" to extinguish the fire before taking apart the roof to find any remaining hotspots. The cause was ruled as accidental.
