A body found in a wood in East Yorkshire is believed to be that of an elderly man who went missing last summer, police have said.

Humberside Police was alerted to the discovery in a wooded area on the outskirts of Easington on Sunday.

The force said it was believed to be missing 89-year-old Malcolm, who was from the village and reported missing on 4 June 2025.

Police said formal identification of the body was yet to take place but it was believed to be Malcolm whose family had been informed and were being supported by officers. There were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances, they added.

Hundreds of volunteers spent the weekend of 7 and 8 June last year trying to find Malcolm after he was last seen on the previous Wednesday morning walking towards the junction of Hull Road before heading west.

Police divers, sniffer dogs and helicopters were also involved in the search.
