Housing group gets go-ahead for its biggest ever town project
Wheatley GroupA housing group has been given the all clear for its biggest ever development in a south of Scotland town.
Plans from Wheatley Homes South (WHS) to build nearly 300 new homes at Catherinefield Farm on the outskirts of Dumfries have been approved by the local authority.
It will feature a Livingwell block providing 41 flats for people aged 55 and over.
The project is part of wider plans by Dumfries and Galloway's biggest social landlord to deliver hundreds of new homes across the region from 2028 onwards.
Work will begin at Catherinefield Farm next year with the first homes ready to be lived in by the following year.
The full site is expected to be completed by late 2031.
Alex Lamb, managing director of Wheatley Homes South, said: "This is a major step forward in our plans to bring more high-quality, energy-efficient homes to Dumfries.
"The views of the local community will be central to any new homes being delivered and will help shape the proposals.
"We were pleased so many people attended our public meetings and shared their views on the type of housing needed locally."
