Trains have been suspended along a large part of the Tyne and Wear Metro network due to problems with the overhead lines.

Services have been cancelled between Gateshead Stadium and South Shields, as well as from Gateshead Stadium to South Hylton.

Train operator Nexus said it was working to restore services "as quickly as possible" and Metro tickets would be accepted on local buses.

"Trains are running to all other stations but may not be to the usual timetable," the company said.

Nexus said Metro train tickets and passes would be accepted on Stage Coach and Go North East buses.

Northern Rail will also accept Metro tickets between Sunderland, Heworth and Central Station in both directions.
