Junk given new love life for Valentine's Day
North East Lincolnshire CouncilStaff at a waste tip have used household rubbish and junk to spread some love for Valentine's Day.
The Grimsby Community Recycling Centre (CRC) is renowned for its seasonal displays and the latest creation features a chef and a table for two in a "love shack".
Site attendant Will said it was a great way to encourage more people to come to the site.
"It all started during lockdown when we created the minions that people still talk about today and the displays have grown from there," he said.
"We have various themes throughout the year, and the hardest part is making sure we have new ideas"
The CRC on Estuary Way has previously created decorations to celebrate Christmas, Easter and Halloween.
For Valentines Day, North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) said the site has been decorated with hearts, windmills, stacks of tyres, Cupid's bow and arrow, and a backdrop of Paris.
"Get booking for your Valentine's Day dinner now," the authority joked.
North East Lincolnshire CouncilThe site is run by NELC's waste management contractor Newlincs Development Ltd.
The CRC, as well as the Immingham Community Recycling Centre on Queen's Road, are open from 08:00 until 18:00 GMT every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
Councillor Henry Hudson, portfolio holder for environment and net zero, said: "Anyone who has visited Grimsby and Immingham tip will see the lengths they go to to make the site a fun place to recycle things you don't need."
