A stretch of motorway in Kent has been closed following a crash involving a car and a lorry.

The M20 was shut between Junction 9 for Ashford and Junction 8 for Hollingbourne just before 04:00 BST.

Police said no injuries had been reported and that the carriageway was shut to allow highways teams to recover the vehicles and clear debris and an oil spill.

National Highways thanked those who had been held up in traffic for their patience.

The Inrix traffic monitoring service has reported congestion on the A20, from Ashford towards Lenham, and out of Ashford on Trinity Road onto Faversham Road, due to the closure.

It added that a bridge was being inspected for damage while recovery and clean-up continued.
