South Yorkshire Police make arrest after wanted man gets stuck on garden shed roof

A wanted man who attempted to hide from police in people's gardens was arrested after he became stuck on a shed roof.

The 31-year-old, who was wanted for recall to prison, fled after failing to stop for police in Moorends, Doncaster but was soon caught when he found himself unable to get down from the garden shed on Sunday.

In helicopter footage, he can be seen surrounded by officers on the ground as they encourage him to come down.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife or bladed article and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.

South Yorkshire Police said: "This was an excellent bit of teamwork with eyes on the ground and in the sky working in tandem to track a wanted man and ensure he was apprehended.

"Despite his best efforts to evade capture, he was never out of sight thanks to the NPAS aircraft and it's a fantastic resource we can call on when needed."

A 20-year-old man, who also attempted to flee from officers in the same incident, was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, failing to stop and drug possession offences.

Police located two stolen vehicles and returned them to their owners.
