The success of Adolescence was a team effort, said the CEO of the production company behind the show

The head of the production company behind TV drama Adolescence said the star-studded ceremony at the Golden Globe Awards felt "a millions miles" from his Doncaster upbringing.

The Netflix show, made by Sheffield-based Warp Films, took home four trophies, including for Best Limited Series and Best Supporting Actor at the 83rd Golden Globes.

Mark Herbert, CEO of Warp Films, described several surreal moments at the event, recalling how actor George Clooney walked past during his BBC Radio Sheffield interview and how he later bumped into Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the toilets.

Herbert, from Conisbrough, said: "It's crazy. I did have to pinch myself because there's absolute legends there."

He added: "Stephen [Graham] is really close with Leonardo DiCaprio so he came up to the table and said hello to Owen and Owen was just like 'oh my words' - it's just pinch yourself really."

Adolescence was first released in March 2025 and comprises four episodes, all shot in one take.

Written by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, it tells the story of a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering a female classmate.

The show received widespread praise for shining a light on the impact of smartphones and social media on teenagers.

Lead actor Stephen Graham won a Golden Globe award for best actor in a limited series, with Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty winning best supporting actor (television) and best supporting actress (television) respectively.

Last year, the show won eight Emmy awards, with Cooper, now 16, becoming the youngest male to win an Emmy award.

Herbert said the show's success was the result of team effort, with "the fingerprints of everyone involved" on the project.

"It's not even a year ago we were still finishing this series," he said.

"The ride's just been unbelievable."

Herbert said new projects were already in the pipeline that would see him once again work with Graham, who he has known for more than two decades.

"We've always been a bit of a family at Warp," he said.

"Whatever happens, we'll just return to our mates and our roots and our friends that we know can do a job."
