Plans for a 32-bed aparthotel for short stay visitors to Bradford have been put forward.

If approved, the five-storey development would be built on a vacant site on the junction of Listerhills Road and Thornton Street, a short walk from the University of Bradford campus.

The scheme would include "spacious" bedroom units for either one or two people, as well as a rooftop terrace and "food and cafe" facility, according to a design and access statement attached to the planning application.

Five retail units and a shared courtyard with seating and greenery would also feature at ground floor level, the statement added.

Put forward on behalf of applicants Mi7 Projects, the application said the aparthotel would cater for "Bradford's growing demand for short and medium-term stays, particularly for visiting professionals, students, and tourists".

The design and access statement said bringing the empty side back into use would help regenerate the area and improve "the local environment".

It added: "Despite its prominent location, the site has remained vacant and underutilised, attracting anti-social behaviour and detracting from the wider townscape."

Bradford Council is expected to make a decision on the proposal in the new year.
