A 48-year-old man has been charged with murder after a man was found dead in a property in south London on New Year's Day.

Officers attended an address on Bondway, Lambeth, at about 20:00 GMT on Thursday and found the body of Kaleem Shaik, 41, inside the property, the Metropolitan Police said.

Daniel Levy, of Bondway, Lambeth, has been charged with his murder and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Monday.

The Met said the family of Mr Shaik, who was an Indian national and whose family live in India, had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.

Det Ch Insp Phil Clarke, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our thoughts are with Kaleem's family at this very difficult time.

"My team is not currently seeking any additional suspects in relation to this tragic incident.

"We understand the concern this will have caused the local community and residents can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days."
