John Farmer, 45, has been jailed for 10 years for attacking and killing a 33-year-old man in a Chatham car park

A man has been jailed after punching and killing another man in a car park.

John Farmer, 45, twice punched his victim in the car park in Magpie Hall Road, Chatham on 1 April 2024.

The victim, a 33-year-old man, collapsed later that day and died in a London hospital the following day.

Farmer, of Coronation Road in Chatham, who was found guilty of manslaughter in November, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Kent Police Det Ch Insp Neil Kimper said: "Farmer's punches led to a man tragically losing his life and he must now face the consequences of his actions over several years."

He added: "This sentence highlights the serious repercussions of assaulting someone without considering the potential harm that may be caused.

"I would like to thank the witnesses who has assisted our investigation and hope the victim's family and friends can find some closure now this man has been brought to justice."

Farmer was also given an extended license period of three years.
