Devon council pledges £40k for playground upgrades

A Devon council has promised £40,000 to upgrade a children's play area.

Torridge District Council voted to give the money for work at the infant play area at Pollyfield Community Centre, in Bideford.

The council said the play area needed "urgent" financial support to upgrade its equipment including a multi-play unit, which had been closed because of safety concerns.

Councillor Lyndon Piper said he was "delighted", adding that it would help continue a "resurgence" in the area, including the growth of the local football club.

He said the funding would provide a "much-needed, suitable safe place for children to play".

Piper said the decision would keep up the momentum of the area's "revitalisation", as a new playzone had recently been approved.
