James Greenhorn was killed in Tollcross on Monday

A man accused of murdering another man near his home in the middle of the day allegedly fled to Liverpool to avoid detection.

Sean Murray, 30, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court charged with murdering James Greenhorn, 61, in Glasgow's Tollcross on 9 February.

Court papers state Murray pursued the victim and repeatedly struck him on the head and body with a knife, as well as punching and kicking him, before attempting to pervert the course of justice by travelling to Liverpool.

Murray - who was represented by his lawyer Peter Malone - made no plea at a private hearing.

It is claimed that Murray boarded a train from Edinburgh Waverley train station to Liverpool after the attack on Greenhorn, who died at the scene.

The second charge says this was done to avoid detection, arrest and prosecution for the murder allegation.

Murray was remanded in custody and committed for further examination by Sheriff Mary Shields.

He will appear again at court within the next eight days.
