A new housing development could become more densely populated than originally planned.

Developers want to replace plans for 17 homes at the partially built Sutton Park development in Leverington, Cambridgeshire, with 50.

Flittermere Developments said demand for smaller houses was far greater than that for larger ones in the village, which is on the outskirts of Wisbech.

The firm has applied to update its plans to build 221 new homes in the village, which was approved by Fenland District Council in 2019.

If the new proposal is accepted, 50 two and three-bedroom homes will be built on the north-eastern part of the site, rather than four and five-bedroom homes.

A spokesperson for Flittermere Developments said the properties were "evidently more in tune with housing need and purchasers' demands".

Plans for three-storey town houses, which the developer said were "not popular with purchasers", have also been abandoned.

Part of the development has already been built and sold.

Flittermere Developments describes Sutton Park as a "brand new development of homes" with "the benefits of amenities and leisure opportunities nearby".
