Twenty-nine of the Lindt gold bunnies were taken by the thief

A sweet-toothed thief has been arrested after stealing 29 chocolate bunnies from a shop.

The shoplifter struck Sainsbury's in Sidney Street, Cambridge, on Wednesday, and made off with the stash of Lindt gold chocolate bunnies.

Cambridgeshire Police chased after the suspected thief and said an officer was just a "hop, skip, and a jump behind him", before catching up.

The 36-year-old man was arrested and the bunnies were taken into custody as evidence.

The gold bunnies are a distinctive Easter treat

The chocolate treats are popular Easter gifts and are recognisable by their gold foil wrapping and red ribbon and bell around each rabbit's neck.

Police said the suspect "thought he could make a clean getaway with a basketful of bunnies", but they posted body-worn camera video of the short pursuit, which lasted 30 seconds.
