Lanes to reopen on key route during repairs
Middlesbrough CouncilOne of a town's "busiest roads" is set to fully reopen after it was deemed unsafe for traffic six months ago.
Middlesbrough Council closed one side of a section of Ladgate Lane last July after a culvert underneath the carriageway was damaged.
Workers are set to spend the next 10 days installing a temporary repair, which will allow it to fully open until a complete fix can be carried out later in the year.
The council said the full repair had been set to begin in March but would have taken several months and clashed with construction of a nearby interchange scheme.
"With the imminent start of work on the A174/Marton Interchange scheme and the likely delays that will cause, the decision was taken to introduce a temporary repair to ease pressure on the network," a spokesperson said.
"This has been a complex and costly repair from the outset, and the initial closure was unavoidable to ensure public safety."
The temporary fix will take 10 days to complete and will see concrete supports installed to allow traffic to travel on both lanes.
The road was previously described by Middlesbrough Independent Councillors' Association leader Mick Saunders as one of the town's "busiest roads" and "a major route" towards James Cook University Hospital.
One resident complained the closure had resulted in traffic being backed up to Ormesby High Street most mornings.
