Police were called to Abbey Orchard Street, in Westminster, on Friday night

A man stabbed to death in central London has been named as 26-year-old Farmanullah Sherzad.

Met Police said he was found by officers who had been called to Abbey Orchard Street, in Westminster, at about 22:15 GMT on Friday.

They provided first aid before the London Ambulance Service took him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two men, aged 18 and 21, have been arrested on suspicion of murder, and remain in custody.

Met Police Det Ch Insp Wayne Jolley, said: "These arrests mark significant progress in what continues to be a fast‑moving and complex investigation.

"Our thoughts remain with his family as they continue to process this devastating loss.

"To provide reassurance, officers will be carrying out extra patrols in the area over the coming days and will be available to speak with anyone who has concerns."

A post-mortem examination confirmed that Farmanullah's death was caused by multiple sharp force trauma injuries.

His family are being supported by specially-trained officers, the Met added.
