A driver has been arrested after crashing into a tree while being almost three times over the legal alcohol limit.

Police said the driver left Knights End Road in March, Cambridgeshire, at about 12:54 GMT on Saturday before hitting the tree and ricocheting back onto the carriageway.

A police spokesperson said the driver was arrested after officers conducted a roadside breath test and was taken to Peterborough City Hospital with "serious but not life-threatening injuries".

They added the driver admitted to drinking the night before and that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.

"Once again, we want to remind everyone that drinking the night before can still leave you over the legal limit the next day," the spokesperson said.

"If you're unsure, don't drive," they added.
