UK's 'largest' one-day Christmas market to return

An East Yorkshire town is set to hold its "hugely popular" Christmas market again after bad weather saw last year's event cancelled.

Beverley Festival of Christmas - now in its 29th year - is the UK's largest one-day festive market, according to East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

This year's event is due to take place on 14 December and will feature more than 120 stalls. It will run from 10:00 to 16:00 GMT.

For the first time, local producers will be showcasing their wares in the North Bar's Georgian Quarter.

The 2024 festival was cancelled over weather warnings of heavy rain and severe winds from Storm Darragh.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure, said: "Beverley Festival of Christmas is the flagship tourism event for our region and is an important date in the calendar for businesses and traders.

"It is always a hugely popular event, with visitors from all over the UK coming to enjoy the festive stalls and entertainment.

"The event will also provide a welcome boost to the local visitor economy at such a wonderful time of the year."

Further details on the planned entertainment, travel information, park and ride and road closures will be available in the run-up to the event.
