Tram stop renamed to 'help people get around'

A tram stop has been renamed to make it "easier to identify," according to transport bosses.

Barton Dock Road at the Trafford Centre was renamed Trafford Palazzo by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), which controls Metrolink and the Bee Network.

TfGM said the decision was made after agreeing a partnership with the complex's owners, Peel, and it had already updated signage and maps so people could "get around more easily".

Fran Wilkinson, director of customer and growth, said: "The renaming of the tram stop reflects its location next to Trafford Palazzo, making it clearer for those travelling to this popular destination."

Currently, trams serving the station run every 12 minutes from Deansgate-Castlefield to the Trafford Centre and vice-versa.

Celebrations have been planned for Saturday when "roaming modern living statues" will board trams from the newly-named stop to Deansgate and back.
