Thousands of households in Bristol are facing a third day without water, or low pressure, as a second leak has been found on a burst main.

The junction of Hengrove Way and Hawkfield Road, in Hartcliffe, remains closed while Bristol Water crews fix the pipe. The company said about 2,600 customers in the BS4 and BS14 areas are affected.

Bottled water will be delivered to vulnerable customers and a station where people can collect drinking water is open near the old Cineworld on Hengrove Way until 22:00 GMT.

"We are very sorry and we understand that this is frustrating for customers and we will continue to keep everyone updated throughout the day," a spokesperson for Bristol Water said.

"Our teams have worked hard to complete the challenging repair on our water main on Hawkfield Road.

"Unfortunately, as we began to restore supplies we discovered a second leak on the pipe, which we are digging to now so a repair can be made," they added.

Steve Spencer, senior distribution manager for Bristol Water said: "The team are working to excavate a vast amount of material to allow us to undertake a second repair.

"We realise how disruptive these burst mains are to our customers and we are working all round the clock to get these repairs made as quickly as possible, and we'd like to thank all our customers for their patience at this time."
