A council has told drivers to be vigilant after fake QR codes were placed on some of its parking machines.

West Northamptonshire Council said the code would take users to a fake site which asked for payment information and other personal details.

Following payment, the parking would then not be valid.

In a tweet, the council said it "offers no services via QR codes and these should not be used at any Northampton car parks or country parks.

The council also said its team would be checking all car parks to "prevent further scams."
