The town council said concerns had been raised about the impact of overnight parking charges on the town's economy

Overnight parking charges set to be introduced in Oswestry have been suspended following complaints from the public.

Mayor Rosie Radford told a town council meeting on Wednesday that concerns had been raised about costs and the impact on the nighttime economy.

Concerns had also been raised about people parking in residential areas to avoid fees, the authority said.

Radford told the meeting: "[While] we need to make sure we have the funding to serve our community well, we must listen to what people are telling us."

The town council agreed there would be public consultation before any future decisions about overnight parking charges were made.

The fees had been due to come into effect from next month.
