Location of city's first red route revealed
BBCThe location of Bradford's first designated red route had been revealed, though no date has been set for its introduction.
Bradford Council said double red lines - which would see drivers immediately fined if they park on them - would be introduced on Nelson Street – next to Trafalgar House police station.
It comes after West Yorkshire Police urged the council to take action on the street, which they said was often be blighted by parking that blocks emergency vehicles.
The use of red routes in the district was backed by councillors in July 2025, but the authority said their introduction had been delayed by the need to purchase the ANPR cameras needed to enforce restrictions.
When asked by the Local Democracy Reporting Service why it had requested the restrictions West Yorkshire Police said: "Nelson Street is a major route into Bradford with a police station, a college and primary school on it.
"Emergency Police vehicles respond from the location and at times the route can be blocked causing a hazard to road users and pedestrians.
"We would support any measure that keeps the area as clear as possible to maximise the safety of everyone."
Once red routes are introduced, anyone stopping on the double red lines would be immediately fined, with drivers given no grace period to move on like with double yellow lines.
Enforcement would be carried out by ANPR cameras rather than traffic wardens.
Bradford Council said alongside the delay in procuring the cameras it was also involved in "discussions with Legal Services about the requirements for the associated Traffic Regulation Order".
On the subject of other possible locations a spokesperson said: We are keen to progress more as required but no firm proposals have been developed at this time."
