Colin Gaines has been remanded in custody

A man has appeared in court charged with 39 historical child sex offences.

Colin Gaines, formerly of Bingley, is accused of carrying out the abuse throughout the 1980s and 90s in Bradford district.

The 72-year-old appeared before Leeds Magistrates' Court last week and was remanded into custody, West Yorkshire Police said.

He is due to appear at Bradford Crown Court on 20 March.
