A project to reclaim a pond which has become a site for anti-social behaviour has begun.

Middlesbrough Council said it would initially clear hedges and shrubs from around the water feature in the town's Central Square.

The council said it hoped the project would "disrupt" anti-social behaviour and allow locals to enjoy the space again.

The council said clearance had been timed to avoid birdnesting season and a programme of planting would take place in future to add greenery to the area.

The work has been made possible due to funding from the government's Pride in Place scheme, the council said.
