A man and woman appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court on Monday after being after being extradited from Malta

A 27-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman have appeared in court in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, after being extradited from Malta.

It is the first time an extradition from Malta to Northern Ireland has taken place.

The man is charged with two offences of rape and four charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The woman faces six charges, including three of child cruelty and three of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

All the offences are alleged to have occurred in Enniskillen between February 2020 and June 2021.

A detective constable from the Police Service of Northern Ireland said she could connect the defendants to the charges.

Both defendants were remanded in custody and will appear back in court on 29 December.
