Former city centre roundabout switches to junction

A new layout at a busy Nottingham city centre junction has opened.

The £8.97m project has seen the Maid Marian Way island - which connected the road with Derby Road and Upper Parliament Street - removed.

It has been replaced with a T-junction, with Upper Parliament Street meeting the other carriageways.

The city council thanked road users for their patience during disruption and said it would be monitoring traffic flow.

Work in the area is ongoing and the junction is currently controlled by temporary traffic lights.

Work began in the spring, with officials saying the roundabout was "outdated" and a barrier to movement around the city centre.

The new layout will also provide space for "new public realm areas and planting".

The council also emphasised the junction was not complete and some lanes had not opened fully.

A spokesperson said: "Thank you for bearing with us during this big change.

"It will take a few days for things to settle down and our teams are on site all week monitoring traffic flow and tweaking things to keep you moving."

The Maid Marian Way project will continue until summer 2025.
