Solar panels to save £35k a year, trust says
BBCA hospital trust has said the installation of solar panels at one of its hospitals will save £35,000 annually.
The 200kw system will be installed on the car park canopy at the Princess Royal Hospital, with work expected to start in the new year.
The panels are being funded by £445,000 from Great British Energy, after the government announced plans in September to roll out more solar panels at military sites, schools and NHS trusts.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust said the investment aligned with "our vision of sustainable health services and more modern facilities, creating a better environment for our patients and colleagues".
The trust's Inese Robotham added: "It is a project that will reduce our carbon footprint further and contribute to savings of an estimated £1 million a year in energy costs, which can then be redirected into frontline care."
