Organisers will be hoping for more home success in the Birmingham championships

Hundreds of volunteers are being sought as Birmingham prepares to host the European Athletics Championships this year.

Organisers said they wanted about 1,500 people to "Be a Champion" and apply to support the event, at the Alexander Stadium from 10-16 August.

Volunteers are needed across a range of areas including spectator services, hospitality and medal ceremonies.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over by 1 July 2026, have the right to work in the UK and be available from 8-17 August, a spokesperson said.

Councillor Sharon Thompson, deputy leader of the city council, said hosting the the championships was "a chance to feel the buzz of a major sporting event" while providing "the warm Brummie welcome our city is famous for".

The online application process closes on 10 March.
