The Green Party have won a by-election in Warwickshire on the same night of the party's historic win in Greater Manchester.

Clare Bryan won the All Saints & Woodloes seat at Warwick Town Council.

This comes after councillor John Sullivan stepped down due to health reasons. He held the position from May 2023 to April 2024 for Labour and then until December 2024 as an Independent.

Bryan beat Conservative's Moira-Ann Grainger, who came second, by 312 votes.

On her campaign, Bryan said she would do whatever she could so the people of Warwick could be a part of a "safe and supportive community".

She said: "I'm standing for The Green Party because I believe in a world where everyone, regardless of race or gender, is treated with kindness and compassion. I don't believe any other party is committed to delivering on that."

The turnout for the election was 24.4% - 1,716 ballot papers were issued in a district where 7,009 people are eligible to vote.

Results:

  • Clare Bryan (Green) – 684
  • Moira-Ann Grainger (Con) – 372
  • Claire Wightman (Ind) – 304
  • Michael Dray (Lab) - 207
  • Laurence Byrne (Lib Dem) - 133
